With the start of the summer holidays, the nationwide school bag campaign organised by the Johanniter Aid Communities has begun. In many locations, volunteers are collecting school bags that are still in good condition but are no longer needed.
The reason is simple: when children move on to secondary school, many receive a new school bag – while their old one can still be put to good use for many years.
The donated school bags are intended to make the start of the school year a little easier for children in Ukraine amid the realities of war. Through Mission Siret, they are distributed to girls and boys in need – both in refugee shelters in the west of the country and in war-affected regions in the east.
Last year, the Johanniter Aid Communities collected more than 700 school bags as part of the campaign. Many of the donated bags were thoughtfully filled with pencil cases and school supplies, bringing great joy to the children even before their first day of school.
