Easter Season in Ukraine

Freiwillige verbinden Hilfsarbeit mit religiösen Traditionen

This year, the volunteers of Mission Siret celebrated Easter in Ukraine and Romania and had the opportunity to experience local traditions firsthand. They witnessed how society accommodates different holiday calendars: while Western churches celebrated Easter earlier, Orthodox Easter was observed one week later.

The volunteers prepared their own Easter baskets, which they had blessed during a church service. Before and during their own Easter celebrations, they continued their work tirelessly, striving to deliver as many relief supplies as possible to people in Ukraine ahead of Orthodox Easter.

One particularly memorable experience was packing and distributing bags containing food and other essential items to a refugee shelter. The gratitude and joy of the residents, who received this support just before Easter, deeply moved the volunteers.

The shared celebrations and relief efforts made this Easter an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. Shortly before the beginning of Orthodox Easter, the current volunteer rotation comes to an end, allowing our hosts to celebrate their own Easter in peace and reflection.
