For some people, one volunteer commitment simply isn't enough – and our volunteer Lasse Gieskes is a perfect example. Lasse has already taken part in three missions to Ukraine and continues to serve as an ambassador for Mission Siret in his hometown of Gelsenkirchen, even after returning from his deployments.
He is also involved with the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) and supports people experiencing homelessness. Since such an extraordinary level of commitment is far from common for a 26-year-old, Lasse has now been nominated for the German Engagement Award (Deutscher Engagementpreis). Many volunteers from the Mission Siret community have already voted for Lasse and are eagerly waiting to see whether he will be among the winners.
Through the German Engagement Award, the Minister of State for Sport and Volunteering recognises individuals who selflessly dedicate their time and energy to helping others in a wide range of fields. Winners receive cash prizes of up to €10,000. In 2026, nearly 500 volunteers from across Germany were nominated for the award. Lasse Gieskes was recently ranked 44th, and every additional vote cast here brings him one step closer to the top.
