The Canadian humanitarian organisation GlobalMedic is one of Mission Siret’s most important partners. For years, the organisation has been sending humanitarian aid to Siret, which Mission Siret then distributes in Ukraine, including with the support of volunteers from Canada. Marie-Agnes v. Strotha and Loretta Boyens from the organisational team recently had the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into GlobalMedic’s work at its headquarters in Toronto.
During a training day for volunteers from the Rapid Response Team, they learned about the preparation and organisation of deployments in crisis areas. This included the precise documentation of events on the ground, cooperation with local partner organisations such as Mission Siret, as well as insights into the general history of humanitarian aid and the development of GlobalMedic as an organisation.
They were also shown and given explanations of various water filtration systems that Mission Siret regularly delivers to Ukraine together with GlobalMedic. Many of the volunteers taking part in the training day had previously served in Siret themselves and were delighted to meet again and exchange experiences.
In addition, Marie-Agnes and Loretta helped pack food boxes and harvest and package microgreens such as cress and sprouts. GlobalMedic distributes both through food assistance programmes for people in need across Canada.
Overall, the visit further strengthened the long-standing partnership and cooperation between Mission Siret and GlobalMedic.
