Earlier this month, Mission Siret joined the Children's Day celebrations in Chernivtsi for the very first time. Our volunteers were invited to a colorful stage performance lovingly prepared by children and young people, giving the audience a welcome opportunity to forget the hardships of everyday life in wartime for a few hours.
During the celebration, our volunteers not only handed out small gifts to the children but also shared in the joy of the occasion through music, dancing, and fellowship.
For many years, Children's Day in Ukraine was traditionally celebrated on June 1. The holiday symbolized the beginning of the summer school break and was marked by concerts, festivals, and small presents for children. Its origins date back to the socialist era.
In recent years, however, the Ukrainian government officially moved Children's Day to November 20, the Universal Children's Day established by the United Nations, aligning the country with European and international standards. Even so, the tradition of celebrating on June 1 continues in many communities across Ukraine.
